New Orleans Public Belt Railroad expands liquid bulk capacity

The New Orleans Public Belt Railroad and Gulf Gateway Terminal LLC have announced expanded storage capacity for liquid bulk traffic at Gulf Gateway’s facility at the Port of New Orleans.

The terminal is a liquid storage and distribution hub on 40 acres at the port with access to all six Class I railroads via the NOPB. Recent expansion with the addition of a new storage tank will double storage capacity, with more additions planned.

New Orleans Public Belt Railroad completes France Road rail yard expansion

The New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB) has completed the expansion of the France Road rail yard, which the railroad says will increase throughput in the New Orleans rail gateway.

The rail yard will expand NOPB’s capacity to switch, interchange and store rail cars. The rail yard created storage space for 220 more rail cars. 

NOPB is a Class III switching railway serving the Port of New Orleans. The railway connects with all six Class I railroads.

Louisiana gives $3 million to 2 short-line railroad projects

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is awarding grants totalling $3 million to two projects aimed at increasing network fluidity, supporting the broader supply chain and modernizing and increasing the climate resiliency of existing infrastructure.

Port of New Orleans railroad upgrades locomotives

The Port of New Orleans has completed the acquisition of eight new locomotives for operating within the port complex.

With the arrival of the eight new engines, the port authority’s short-line New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB) will reduce its locomotive fleet from 15 to eight. The new locomotives are also expected to reduce fuel consumption by 25% and emissions by 40%.
