Industry veteran Bryan Nichols has been named manager of business development at Crowley Shipping, the company announced Tuesday.

With 30 years of experience, Nichols’ career has centered on helping to develop industry-leading solutions for ship assist and escort tugboats. Nichols handled business development for the last four years at Jensen Maritime, the Crowley group’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering subsidiary.

Another milestone for hybrid workboat technology has been delivered on the West Coast: the 100’x40’ tugboat Delta Teresa, the latest tractor tug for San Francisco-based Baydelta Maritime.

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, Jensen Maritime Consultants, has provided the detailed design for an initial four, with an option for six additional, Tier IV tractor tugboats being built by Nichols Brothers Boat Builders for Foss Maritime.

Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB), Freeland, Wash., is building four new 90-ton bollard pull tractor tugs for Foss Maritime, Seattle. The contract has an option for six additional tugs and marks the first agreement between the two companies.

Foss has selected a design by Jensen Maritime Consultants, Seattle. The 100’x 40′ Z-drive tractor tugs will be built to Coast Guard Subchapter M regulatory standards, with ABS loadline certification, and UWILD notation.

WorkBoat has named its 10 Significant Boats of 2018. This year’s list included four passenger vessels, two of them ferries. Other selections: two ATBs, a tug, water taxi, towboat, fire-rescue boat and an LNG bunker barge.
