More Incat Crowther-designed ferries delivered to New York

Halimar Shipyard, Morgan City, La., and Breaux Brothers Enterprises, Loreauville, La., each delivered a new 97’1″x27’11″x11’6″ ferry for NYC Ferry.

Designed by Incat Crowther, the first two low emission EPA Tier 4 compliant 354-passenger ferries, named H401 and Curiosity, will join the fleet of the still expanding NYC Ferry by Hornblower. The Incat Crowther Digital Ship design package allowed identical vessels to be constructed at independent shipyards.

Increasing subsidies plus an estimated $375 million to expand the New York City ferry fleet has budget watchdogs and some transit advocates pushing for tighter controls and higher fares on the NYC Ferry public system.

NYC Ferry will expand through 2021

The NYC Ferry public system will expand to all five New York City boroughs in 2020, including a new cross-harbor route from Staten Island, service to Coney Island and additional stops on existing routes.

The Staten Island route will be a 35-minute run from St. George on the island’s northeast to Manhattan’s Battery Park City/Vesey Street landing, and then ending at the Midtown 39th Street landing. Despite the city’s iconic Staten Island Ferry, the distant borough has few public transit options.
