More layoffs hit freight-related companies across US

Layoffs continue across the freight and logistics industry, with companies announcing 1,277 job reductions and six distribution facility closures across the country.

It is the second major round of layoffs in the industry since last week, when True Value Co., GXO, CJ Logistics America, DHL, PepsiCo, Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling LLC, Hunt & Sons LLC, Kuehne+Nagel, Americold Logistics, Amazon and Trademango Solutions announced they were eliminating 2,402 jobs.

UPS acquires pair of health care logistics operators

UPS has announced plans to acquire two Germany-based temperature-controlled logistics providers to augment its growing health care logistics business.

The agreement includes Frigo-Trans and its sister company BPL, both of which operate under the Frigo-Trans banner. The Frigo-Trans network provides six temperature-controlled warehouse zones, ranging from minus 196 degrees to 25 degrees Celsius.

Brian Dykes named UPS chief financial officer

UPS announced the appointment of Brian Dykes as executive vice president and chief financial officer on Tuesday.

Dykes will begin his new role immediately, according to a news release from the Atlanta-headquartered company. He will also lead UPS’ global finance organization, which includes planning, treasury, tax, financial reporting, financial operations and investor relations.
