Greenpeace loses the battle against Arctic oil drilling

After the environmental groups Greenpeace and Nature and Youth taken legal action against the Norwegian government in an attempt to stop oil drilling in Norway’s Arctic waters back in 2018, an Oslo appeals court recently approved Norway’s plans for more oil exploration in the Arctic.

That means that Greenpeace lost the battle of stopping Norway from granting permission for oil drilling exploration in the Arctic sea.

NYK, Van Oord ink MoU to boost Japan’s wind power

The shipping lines Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) along with the European expert in the wind power, Van Oord shake their hands and inked a MoU in order to jointly own and operate offshore wind installation vessels under the Japanese flag. Specifically, both sides goal to begin operations using a jack up vessel in Japan until 2022, the earliest.

Norway awards 69 offshore production licenses

The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy announced that offered 69 production licenses on the Norwegian continental shelf, to in total 28 oil and gas companies under the Award in Pre-Defined Areas 2019 (APA 2019). For the records, the first licensing round on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) took place back in 1965.

Namely, 33 of the licences are located in the North Sea, 23 in the Norwegian Sea and 13 in the Barents Sea.

Petronas puts fire under control in gas pipeline

The Malaysian energy company Petronas announced that a pipe rupture and a fire incident unexpectedly occurred at the Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP). According to the company, the incidents took place early in the morning, at 1:59 AM, approximately 4 km from Long Selulong, Ulu Baram, Miri.

Petronas managed to put the fire under control, while it is still closely monitoring the situation in order to avoid such incidents.

Shell makes gas discovery offshore Australia

Shell officially informed that made a “significant gas and condensate discovery” during its exploration in the Browse Basin off the North West Coast of Western Australia. Specifically, the discovery came when drilling in the Bratwurst-1 exploration well.

Shell’s environment plan for the drilling was submitted back in January 2019 while eventually gained permit in May 2019.

French partners hold ceremony for the construction of Saint-Nazaire offshore wind project

French EDF Renewables and Enbridge conducted a ceremony highlighting the beginning of the construction on the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind project in France. The 480MW wind farm will be equipped with 80 GE Haliade 150-6MW turbines manufactured in France and is planned to begin operations in 2022.
