Investigation of Snorre B fire finds breaches of regulations

Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has identified breaches of regulations in relation to a fire incident on the Snorre B facility on 1 May 2019. The investigation revealed that iron sulphide, which caused the fire, was not known to be present in the separator, so no appropriate measures were taken.

Since the fire broke out the day before the start of a planned turnaround, the process plant was depressurized, drained and purged with inert gas.

University of Hull, Siemens Gamesa to provide offshore wind energy education

The University of Hull has joined with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) to offer an MSc Masters Degree Apprenticeship in Offshore Wind Energy Engineering through the University’s Department of Engineering.

This course is the first of its kind in the UK, and aims to equip the graduates with the educational requirements for registration as Chartered Engineers with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers or Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Investigation finds cracks on Modec FPSO after oil spill

An investigation at the external tanks of FPSO ‘Cidade do Rio de Janeiro’, at the Espadarte field in Brazil, revealed cracks at the hull, the Tokyo-based operator MODEC informed.

Over the weekend, 1.2 cubic meter of residual oil leaked from the unit, which was identified and recovered, the operator said.

On Monday, 26 August, in a new overflight, the presence of oil at sea was perceived, in an estimated amount of 6.6 cubic meters.
