Canada pumps $29M into rail projects, rail-related climate studies

The Canadian government is investing in rail infrastructure in Saskatchewan and Ontario as part of its broader program aimed at bolstering Canada’s trade corridors.

Canada is also funding climate resiliency projects that seek to safeguard rail infrastructure.

Together, the investments total more than CA$29 million ($22 million). 

Four projects in Saskatchewan are getting $18.3 million through Canada’s National Trade Corridors Fund.

CN allocates more thana $800M for capital investments in Ontario, Alberta

CN plans to invest almost CA$800 million (US$618 million) in capital improvements in Ontario and Alberta, the railway announced Wednesday.

This adds to the $725 million in capital expenditures that CN unveiled Tuesday for network improvements in British Columbia and Quebec. In all, CN is allocating $1.52 billion to capital improvements in four provinces.

TravelCenters of America pulling out of Canada

TravelCenters of America plans to close its single Canadian truck stop, in southwestern Ontario, the company said Thursday. 

The Ohio-based truck stop chain has agreed to sell its site in the city of Woodstock, company spokesperson Tina Arundel wrote in an email. The buyer was not disclosed.

Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation is taking 12 truck operators out of service — suspending their operating authorities and ordering the seizure of their license plates — in connection with their role in the Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa, Canada.

Schneider National plans to shut down its Canada-based operations and sell off its single terminal in Ontario, the company said Friday.
