For those of us who have been following the project from its earliest days, this has been a long-awaited development: SWITCH Maritime’s hydrogen fuel cell powered ferry the Sea Change has now received its U.S. Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection (COI). With the COI, the vessel is now able to commence commercial operations, delivering a zero-emission public ferry service.

SWITCH raises $10 million to expand its zero-emission ferry fleet

Zero-emission ferry developer SWITCH Maritime LLC has raised $10 million in a Series A round led by Nexus Development Capital to grow its fleet of battery and hydrogen fuel cell powered vessels.

Founded in 2018 by a veteran team of maritime energy transition leaders, SWITCH’s mission is to enable private and public municipal ferry operators to more easily replace their carbon-intensive, diesel-powered fleets while reducing operating and fueling costs over the lifetime of their vessels.
