CMA CGM applies Panama Canal Transit Surcharge from Far East to US East Coast & US Gulf

The Panama Canal Authority has introduced a new booking reservation system, the Long-Term Slot Allocation (LoTSA), to regulate canal crossing reservations.

This system, which will take effect on 1 January 2025, has significantly increased operational costs for CMA CGM.

To offset these additional costs while continuing to provide reliable services transiting through the Panama Canal, CMA CGM will implement a Panama Canal Transit surcharge starting 2 January 2025.

Panama Canal fees increase postponed for June

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has announced that it will postpone price increases on canal transit fees which were due to come into effect today, 15 April.

The decision follows a joint letter sent by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA), and European Community Shipowners’ Association (ECSA), expressing concerns over the speed of price increases that were expected to begin from mid-April.

PCA Postpones Price Increase After Stakeholders’ Request
