$1,400 COVID relief checks to trigger surge in e-commerce shipments

Greater opportunities expected for B2B white glove delivery in 2021

Major parcel carriers have prioritized small package deliveries as increased demand for consumer deliverables has outstripped their capacity to deliver larger parcels. John Hagi, AIT Worldwide Logistics’ director of residential delivery and special services, expects this trend will continue through peak season and into next year.

“Our customers are telling us that they’re re-evaluating their supply chain decisions,” Hagi said. “Parcel carriers today are focused more on margins than market share.”

US Postal Service volumes grow 50% in face of steep loss

The U.S. Postal Service reported a nearly 50% increase in shipping and package volume in the latest quarter as a result of a surge in e-commerce due to COVID-19, one of the only bright spots in another quarter marked by steep losses, the agency announced on August 7.

Shipping and package revenue increased in the agency’s fiscal third quarter by $2.9 billion, or 53.6%, compared with the same period last year, on a volume increase of 708 million pieces.

UPS partners with Mexican firm for international shipping

United Parcel Service (UPS) and Estafeta have announced a partnership to provide Mexican businesses with international shipping services.
