No holiday for delivery firms as fuel prices remain elevated

Fuel prices hurting delivery firms

As fuel prices have surged in the U.S., last-mile delivery companies have been put in a precarious position. Some have tried to implement surcharges to cover the added costs, while others already had surcharges in place for this scenario. But with fuel prices doubling in some areas in less than two weeks’ time, even surcharges will take time to recoup some of that increase.

In the last week, Uber (NYSE: UBER) and Lyft (NASDAQ: LYFT) have announced surcharges, and DoorDash (NYSE: DASH) has...

Amazon’s private cargo airline increased flight activity 31% in the past year, with much of the expansion recently happening in Europe to support the company’s e-commerce business, according to a new report from researchers tracking the retail giant’s air logistics operation.

Senate passes postal reform, bill heads to White House

Legislation providing a long-sought lifeline to the struggling U.S. Postal Service passed the Senate on Tuesday and now moves to President Joe Biden for his expected signature.

The Postal Service Reform Act of 2022, which passed the House in February with overwhelming bipartisan support, eliminates an onerous health care pre-funding requirement for postal workers that the agency has stated would have been the biggest driver of an estimated $160 billion loss over the next decade.

But by abolishing...

Companies across the industry are facing similar challenges, but capacity concerns are especially strong in the parcel space. There has been a tremendous increase in parcel demand since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic; this can be attributed – in...

House passes Postal Service reform bill

Bipartisan legislation strengthening U.S. Postal Service operations while removing billions of dollars in financial burdens from the agency passed in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The Postal Service Reform Act of 2021, which passed by a vote of 342-92, would codify into law a service provision that has been the foundation of the agency for businesses and consumers: a six-day-per-week, integrated network for mail and packages.

The provision avoids the potential for splitting the Postal...
