FedEx puts surcharges on several types of packages

Less than two weeks after UPS posted surcharges on all types of delivery, FedEx has followed suit.

In a late announcement on June 3, FedEx rolled out several different types of surcharges, depending on the type of shipment. The surcharges go into effect on Monday, June 8.

Transplace acquires ScanData, parcel managed transportation platform

This morning Transplace announced the acquisition of ScanData, a parcel managed transportation platform that optimizes 400 million parcel shipments worth more than $2 billion annually. FedEx named as suitor for German parcel company

According to a report in German newspaper Handelsblatt Today, FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) is pursuing an ownership stake in German parcel company Hermes.

Amazon Air picks San Bernardino airport for western hub

As expected, Amazon’s newest air hub will be in San Bernardino, California, where feeder aircraft from various cities and trucks from nearby warehouses will arrive with packages to be sorted and redistributed nationwide on outbound airplanes.

U.S. Postal Service loses $4.5 billion in latest quarter

U.S. Postal Service (USPS) losses continued to mount with a $4.5 billion loss reported on May 8 for the latest quarter amid warnings from the federal agency that government intervention is needed to avoid a potential service shutdown.

Former XPO executive tapped to head U.S. Postal Service

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) board unanimously selected Louis DeJoy to serve as its 75th Postmaster General, a private-sector pick that feeds speculation that the world’s largest postal organization could be headed for privatization.
