Corvus Energy, a Canadian manufacturer of energy storage systems, announced that it will launch a new battery for cruise ships, Ro-pax and ro-ro with unlimited capacity. According to the company, the Corvus Blue Whale is a fit to applications requiring low charge or discharge rate, in combination with high energy demand.

Finnish Ministry: Reforms on vessel safety almost complete

The Ministry of Transport and Communication of Finland announced that the legislative reform concerning the safety of passenger ships will be completed once the related decrees are specified and clarified. Amendments will be made to the Decree on Inspecting Foreign Vessels in Finland.

The Decree on Ensuring Safety of Ro-Ro and High-Speed Passenger Vessel Transport will be repealed. Already at an earlier stage of the reform, the contents of the Decree were included in the related Act.

Ferry suffers fire off Queensland, passengers evacuated

The Australian passenger vessel ‘Fitzroy Flyer’ suffered an engine room fire and all of its four crew and 37 passengers were evacuated, east-north-east of Cairns, Queensland on 29 March 2019.
