US, China, Europe grapple with container shipping bottlenecks

The world’s largest regulatory agencies overseeing international container trades met remotely to discuss rampant supply chain disruptions as carriers and their customers brace for more turmoil during the fall peak shipping season.

Pitney Bowes announces peak-season delivery surcharges

E-commerce and postal provider Pitney Bowes Inc. said it will impose peak-season parcel delivery surcharges of $1.50 per piece on all domestic shipments, effective Oct. 3.

In addition, the Stamford, Connecticut-based company will levy weight-based surcharges on all shipments requiring expedited deliveries, which is a time-definite guarantee of three days or less. 2020 holiday shopping season dubbed most environmentally friendly yet

A Prologis and MIT study said that 2020 was the most environmentally friendly holiday season yet.

A stay-at-home economy helped 2020 deliver the “most environmentally friendly holiday season yet,” according to a Prologis and MIT special report released Thursday. 

Based on consumer behaviors, in-person shopping was compared to e-commerce to find differences in environmental impacts. The study said that one full standard delivery van can replace over 100 individual car trips to the store.

Geodis expands US workforce to meet peak season

Third-party logistics services provider (3PL) Geodis said it plans to hire up to 8,000 seasonal employees in the U.S. to handle an anticipated surge in freight volumes for the end-of-year holidays.
