Guangzhou Port expands international container connections

Guangzhou Port has expanded its international container routes to 119, with South Korean ship operator Pan Ocean adding a service that connects Guangzhou directly with South Korea this month.

The port is one of the fastest growing, taking fifth position in 2019 with total volumes of 23.22 million TEU (21.91 million TEU in 2018), helped by rising throughput in a Guangzhou satellite port,  Nansha. Port of Nansha grows as ocean alliances call and intra-Asia services boom

The port of Nansha at Guangzhou is bucking the downturn trend among container terminals this year, and looks to emerge as the big winner from the Pearl River Delta’s evolution into the Greater Bay Area.

Hong Kong port loses a million teu as PRD undergoes a ‘transformation’

Hong Kong’s container volumes fell by over a million teu last year, pushing the transhipment hub down to eighth place in the global container port rankings.
The port’s throughput fell 6.3%, to 18.36m teu, down more than 1.2m teu on 2018, according to figures from the Hong Kong marine department.
