Two major drug busts tied to cross-border trucking

Officials in California and Texas recently announced two major drug seizures involving cross-border trucking operations along the United States-Mexico border.

On Tuesday, federal charges against three Mexican nationals “suspected of trafficking huge quantities of illicit drugs for the Sinaloa Cartel” into Southern California from Mexico were announced by U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California Robert Brewer.

Mexican border city reconsiders ban on commercial trucks using bridges

The Mexican border city of Reynosa recently ordered a ban on commercial trucks using all city bridges to “improve road safety” for passenger vehicles.

The ban was announced in Reynosa — a sprawling city of 900,000 people along the United States-Mexico border — on Sept. 24.

CBP finds $3M worth of meth in cookie shipment

A tractor-trailer hauling cookies from Mexico turned out to contain $3.3 million in methamphetamine, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

It was the latest in a string of busts at border crossings in South Texas last week totaling $14.36 million in narcotics.

The meth seizure occurred on Friday, when CBP officers at the World Trade Bridge cargo facility in Laredo found the alleged methamphetamine hidden inside a trailer from Mexico. The truck was carrying a shipment of cookies.

CBP to expand one of Texas’ busiest truck ports

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has started work on expanding the Pharr Port of Entry, one of the busiest border crossing points for commercial trucks from Mexico.

CBP seizes $15.9M worth of meth in South Texas

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized almost 800 pounds of methamphetamine in two incidents last week.

The first bust occurred Aug. 10 when officers at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas, were checking a tractor-trailer carrying a load of acrylic polymers from Mexico.

Officers found 10 packages containing 474 pounds of alleged methamphetamine inside the containers of polymers. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $9.5 million.

Broccoli load yields $16M in meth at Texas border, CPB says

Agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Saturday seized more than $16 million worth of methamphetamine hidden inside a shipment of fresh broccoli from Mexico.
