MSC’s new Scan Baltic service makes first call to PhilaPort

On 14 April, PhilaPort welcomed the maiden call of a new ocean liner service to The Port of Philadelphia’s Packer Avenue Marine Terminal.

The container ship M/V Cornelia is part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company’s (MSC) brand new Scan Baltic service.

Container volumes boom at PhilaPort in a record year

The container sector was one of the highlights of the Port of Philadelphia (PhilaPort) in a record-breaking 2021, when the port saw double-digit growth in box volumes, breakbulk and overall port tonnage.

PhilaPort receives governmental support to develop multi-use berth at Southport

PhilaPort will receive a US$49 million grant from the 2021 Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) program, after selected by the US Department of Transportation (USDOT).

The grant funds will be used to provide gap funding for the development of a US$130 million new multi-use berth at Southport.

PhilaPort receives 2nd wave of mega cranes

PhilaPort received two more super post-Panamax cranes on March 27 morning to the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal. After an overnight transit up the Delaware River, the cranes arrived seamlessly approximately 3:45 A.M.

According to a statement, the cranes are identical to the two that arrived at the Port last year – with a fifth crane due to arrive in this summer.
