Seafarers Kidnapped By Nigerian Pirates Released

In a major development, 3 Lebanese seafarers kidnapped by Nigerian Pirates in late November have been released, announced the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday. The 3 seafarers were taken hostage by Nigerian Pirates while their cargo ship was transiting through the Nigerian waters.

The pirates had demanded $1.3 million for the release crew that they had taken hostage. It remains unclear whether this release happened after getting the ransom.

Six Armed Pirates Fire Upon Product Tanker Off Yemen

A product tanker Stolt Apal was attacked by pirates about 75nm off Yemen.

The ship was underway in the Gulf of Aden, when the armed guards aboard Stolt Apal and pirates were engaged in firing.

According to Stolt-Nielsen, “The vessel was approached by two skiffs with six armed pirates. After multiple warning shots were fired by the armed guard team aboard Stolt Apal, the skiffs opened fire on the ship. The armed guard team returned fire, disabling one skiff and ending the pursuit.”
