Piraeus Port Authority completes upgrade works at ship repair zone

Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) has announced the completion of large-scale infrastructure upgrade works at the eastern side of Pier II at the Perama Ship Repair Zone in Greece.

The works are part of the second phase of a broader infrastructure improvement project in the Perama ship repair zone involving among others a complete platform replacement.

Piraeus port sees strong financial results in 2022 first half

Piraeus Port Authority S.A. reported a significant 29.3% turnover increase for the first half of 2022, amounting to €93.1 million (US$90.9 million).

The new turnover growth was a result of an increase in revenues in all port activities during the first six months of the year.

Especially, the cruise business sector recorded an increase in revenue of 182.1%, while the container handling sector (Pier I) recorded an increase in revenue of 53.6% and it is profitable for the first time in its history.

Fatal accident at Piraeus Container Terminal

A 45-year-old worker passed away at Pier II of the Piraeus Container Terminal in Greece after he was fatally hit by a container crane.

According to national media, the employee had just finished his shift and returned to pick up some personal items from the spot. After the accident, he was transferred to a hospital in Nikaia, Piraeus, where doctors confirmed his death.

Piraeus Port increases its capacity

Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) has announced several investments to upgrade the infrastructure of Pier I of the Port of Piraeus and increase its capacity by 30% to 1.3 million TEU per year.

The PPA has ordered five electric powered rubber tyred gantry cranes (E-RTG), which will be installed at Pier I. The new E-RTGs are more environmentally friendly than conventional cranes, according to the port authority, and their use will improve the environmental footprint of the Greek port.

Piraeus enjoys strong 2019 financial results

The Board of Directors of Piraeus Port Authority approved the annual financial results 2019 according to which:

Revenues increased by 12.3% to US$161.4 million (€ 149.2 million) compared to US$143.8 million (€ 132.9 million) in the period of 2018. Port authority says this change is mainly a result of the revenues increase from the concession fee by 17.1%, which translated to US$10.4 million (€ 9.6 million).

Piraeus Port unveils half-year financial results

The BoD of PPA S.A. approved the financial statements for the first semester of 2019. The basic figures are the following:
