Best ever April at Port of Long Beach

Cargo volumes handled in April at the Port of Long Beach eclipsed a record set 13 years ago.

Dockworkers at marine terminals moved 628,121 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in April. The previous high was 619,512 TEUs in April 2006. Imports in April 2019 rose 1.8% to 317,883 TEUs compared to last year. Exports decreased 12.7% to 123,804 TEUs, while empties rose 13.5% to 186,435 TEUs. Total container volume was up 1.6% over April 2018.

Dockworkers move 1.8 million TEUs in three months

Despite lingering trade uncertainty, the Port of Long Beach had the second-busiest first quarter in its history, moving more than 1.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) January through March.

POLB closer to 2nd consecutive year record

Cargo volume continued to rise at the Port of Long Beach in November, setting the stage for a second consecutive calendar year record.

The Port handled 621,835 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container cargo during the month, a 1.5 percent increase compared to November 2017. Last month’s performance pushed 2018’s total TEU count to 7,349,377, making it virtually certain the Port will eclipse its record of 7,544,507 TEUs set last year.
