Valenciaport establishes hydrogen pathway for European ports

Valenciaport attended the Clean Hydrogen Alliance CEO conference in Brussels, where it highlighted the hydrogen projects that are now ongoing and will pave the path for the rest of European ports to emulate similar efforts.

Rail container traffic on the rise in Valencia

In 2022, a total of 2,230,683 tonnes of cargo were transported by rail in the Port of Valencia, an increase of 8% over 2021. At the same time, the Spanish port saw 236,142 TEUs be moved by rail in the previous year, translating to a 10% growth over 2021.

Additionally, the percentage of containers carried by rail compared to the port’s total was 7.8% in 2021, rising to 8.9% in 2022.

Container traffic decreases in Valencia

Port of Valencia reported a 23.5% decline in its January container volumes, compared with the same month last year, handling 343,793 TEUs.

According to the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), full containers dropped by 25% year-on-year, with a decline of 32.3% in import boxes and a 10.2% fall in export containers. The transshipment containers also decreased by 28.1% over January 2022.

Port of Valencia surpasses 5 million TEUs in 2022

Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has reported 5,052,272 TEUs in 2022, a decline of 9.85% compared with box volumes in the previous year.

At the same time, 79,365,321 tonnes of goods were transported via the Spanish port, translating to a 6.92% drop year-on-year.

The Valencia Containerised Freight Index (VCFI) ended 2022 with a 13.10% drop in December compared to November.
