Port Everglades welcomes largest ship to date

Port Everglades has welcomed Kotor Bay, the largest container ship to ever visit the port of South Florida, earlier in December.

Mediterranean Shipping Company’s (MSC) Kotor Bay has a container handling capacity of 8,566 TEU, carrying a variety of cargo from India and the Mediterranean.

The 2009-built container ship, with a beam of 46 meters and an overall length of 340 meters, called at the US port on 22 December.

Port Everglades sets box record in October

Port Everglades in Florida, United States started its fiscal year for 2022, which began on 1 October, with a record-setting first month of 94,588TEU, reflecting a container throughput increase of 5.5% over the previous October record set in 2018.

“It could be a record year for Port Everglades if the rest of the fiscal year holds true to October numbers,” commented Port Everglades Chief Executive and Port Director, Jonathan Daniels.

Port Everglades signs MoU with Honduran authority and operator

Port Everglades, the National Port Authority of Honduras and the terminal operator at Puerto Cortes, Operadora Portuaria Centroamericana (OPC), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as part of a joint Sister Seaports agreement.

The agreement was signed on 5 October during the sixth Annual Latin America Ports Forum and aims to establish an alliance that will generate new business by promoting all-water shipping routes that serve both Port Everglades and Puerto Cortes.
