New Year, New Cash Grab in Western Australia

Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) has introduced a new cash grab, er, port charge at the Port of Port Hedland.

Effective from 1 March 2021, the PPA has decreed that vessels exporting iron ore that use the inner harbour of Port Hedland must pay a “Port Hedland Voluntary Buy-Back Scheme” charge.

ANL sets up Singapore / Port Hedland route

Container shipping line ANL has announced a regular direct connection between Singapore and Port Hedland for break-bulk, containerised and out-of-gauge cargo.

Pilbara Ports Authority marks 2% throughput increase

Pilbara Ports Authority recently published its monthly shipping statistics for December 2019, marking a delivery throughput of 64.6 million tonnes (Mt). That means a 2% increase in comparison with December’s throughput for the previous year.

For the moment, the total throughput for the 2019/20 financial year is 356.2Mt, meaning a slight growth of 2% compared to the same period last year.
