Container throughput rises in Peru

In 2024, Peru’s container ports handled 3.5 million TEUs, marking an 11% year-over-year growth.

The Port of Callao, the country’s largest port, saw an 11% rise in container volumes, surpassing 3 million TEUs and accounting for 88% of Peru’s total container traffic. Meanwhile, Paita, the second-busiest port, processed approximately 310,000 TEUs but experienced a 4% decline.

The Port of Callao in Lima, Peru has seen its DP World-operated South Terminal transformed in recent years with the construction of Muelle del Bicentenario.

The addition of 400 meters to the terminal has extended its total length to 1,050 meters, making it the longest in the country. This expansion allows the South Terminal to service up to three vessels simultaneously, including two vessels of up to 400 meters in length, making it the only terminal in Peru able to handle this size of ships.

DP World completes major expansion project at Port of Callao

DP World has completed a major US$400 million expansion project at the Port of Callao in Peru, enhancing container handling capacity at the South Terminal by 80%.

The Bicentennial Pier expansion project extends the pier from 650 meters to 1,050 meters, making Callao one of the few ports in South America capable of accommodating three vessels (or two mega-vessels) simultaneously.

Peruvian logistics operator enhances equipment fleet with Konecranes reach stacker

A Peruvian logistics company SAVAR has accepted delivery of a new Konecranes reach stacker for its Los Ferroles site N°50 at the Port of Callao, in Lima, the capital and the largest city of Peru.

The order of the equipment, distributed and supported by Trex, a lifting solutions provider in Perú, was booked in August 2021, while the machine started operation in December of the same year.
