South Africa’s cruise ports are welcoming a special visitor this week as the Marco Polo passenger liner visits our shores for the first time since the 1990s.

Originally built in 1965, the cruise liner is operated under charter by UK-based Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV) and flies the flag of the Bahamas. Her passengers are predominantly British retirees. The Master of the ship is Captain Sergiy Zhygalin of the Ukraine.

Cruise ship operator Cunard’s MS Queen Elizabeth was warmly welcomed back to the Port of Cape Town as she sailed majestically in at 06h00 on Tuesday, 19th November with Captain Inger Klein Thorhague at the helm.

The Jascon 30, a DP3 pipelay and accommodation vessel owned by the Dubai-based Telford Offshore, recently underwent refurbishment and refabricating work at Transnet National Port Authority’s Port of Cape Town Sturrock Dry Dock. Port of Cape Town to Introduce Helicopter Marine Pilotage Service

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has taken the decision to introduce a helicopter service at its Port of Cape Town to transfer marine pilots onto and off visiting vessels. This would make the port one of three within the South African port landlord’s complementary port system that offer the service, the others being Durban and Richards Bay.

Maintenance Dredging Campaign Soon Underway at Duncan Dock in the Port of Cape Town

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA)’s Dredging Services division will soon embark on a maintenance dredging campaign at the Port of Cape Town to restore the design depths at certain berths inside Duncan Dock.

The maintenance campaign, which is set to start in early April 2019, is scheduled for completion by the end of May 2019. The main objective of the dredging campaign is to ensure the Port of Cape Town provides safe navigational channels and berthing facilities for shipping.
