Desalination Studies for Cape Town Harbour Have Been Approved

Transnet SOC Ltd has given approval for further studies to be conducted into a Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) plant at the Port of Cape Town.

Reverse osmosis is the process of converting seawater into drinking water.

TNPA’s Cape Town acting Port Manager, Captain Alex Miya, said the next steps would be to appoint consultants to conduct studies that could be concluded by September 2019.  If the SWRO plant is found to be a viable option, it could be introduced by the end of 2020.

Antarctic Centre to be built at the Port of Cape Town

The Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) is set to launch Antarctic Season and will soon be establishing an Antarctic Centre, with the purpose of bringing the Antarctica Continent closer to the citizens of South Africa and promote economic opportunities. Helicopter to transfer Pilots at Port of Cape Town

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is exploring options to introduce a helicopter service at its Port of Cape Town to assist with operations during major swells and to increase the availability of service during stormy conditions.

Cape Town has been plagued recently by weather related disruptions and high swell conditions. This has at times impacted on port operations and the use of pilot boats to transfer marine pilots onto and off vessels.

Tall Ship “Dar Mlodzeizy” Graces Cape Town

On the morning of 15th August 2018 Tall Ship “Dar Mlodzeizy” (Gift of the Youth) arrived in the Port of Cape Town, as part of her 1918 – 2018 Independence Sea Journey, with her 3015 square metres of sails filled with a northerly wind and her bow cutting gracefully through the Atlantic waves, carrying 40 crew and 136 cadets for a two day stopover in the Mother City.
