Chittagong makes e-payment mandatory for shippers from 2022

Bangladesh has made mandatory the e-payment of any kinds of duty-tax, fees, and charges, linked to export and import trade, through Chittagong customs house (CHC).

From 1 January 2022, no more manual payment will be accepted, the CHC said in a notification.

“The importers and exporters themselves will be responsible for the delay in goods delivery for failing to make e-payment,” the notification added.

Chittagong depots owners, users at loggerheads over charge hike

The shipping agents, apparel exporters, and off dock owners are now at loggerheads over the increase of overall charges of the off docks in Chittagong by 23% which is linked to diesel price hike in the domestic market.

Both the apparel makers and shipping agents are demanding cancellation of the charge hike which is feared to increase their cost of doing business significantly and have severe impacts on Bangladesh’s export-import trade.

Bangladeshi truckers continuing strike since Friday: cargo transportation halted

The vehicle strike started on 5 November in Bangladesh is continuing for the fourth consecutive day, disrupting transportation of all kinds of goods across the country.

New rail ICD in Chittagong in the offing

Container Company of Bangladesh Limited (CCBL) is going to build a rail Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Chittagong to boost the transportation of containers by trains.

Local terminal operator Saif Powertec Limited will build and operate the ICD on behalf of CCBL for 20 years before handing it over to CCBL, according to a deal that will be signed on 19 October.

Prime movers enforce six-day strike in a Chittagong depot creating container stockpile

Several hundred export containers have become stuck in a container depot as the drivers and assistants of nearly 100 prime movers of the large box depot in Chittagong have enforced work abstention since 30 September.

Bangladeshi police arrests gangs who steal export cargo from vehicles at highways

Bangladeshi police has arrested a large gang of thieves who steal apparel items by opening the locks of containers and covered vans while the vehicles were at the highways on their way to and from the Chittagong port.

The gang has reportedly stolen goods worth millions of dollars from 5,000 trucks during the last 20 years.

Severe truck strike disrupts container handling at Chittagong port
