Port of Cork reports strong financial numbers amid slight container growth

Port of Cork Company reported strong financial performance in 2022, during a year when the Irish port opened the new Cork Container Terminal in Ringaskiddy.

The company’s turnover increased by 21.5% to approximately US$53 million (€48.41 million) in 2022, and its operating profit grew by 17.7% reaching around US$10 million (€9.16 million).

Port of Cork Company said it achieves a steady recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic period and shows growth despite ongoing global challenges.

Irish container port opens new 330,000 TEU terminal

The Port of Cork in Ireland has opened a new container terminal, called Cork Container Terminal, located in Ringaskiddy.

The new US$86 million box terminal will have the capacity to handle 330,000 TEU, once it will be fully operational.

Cork Chamber said the launch of the Port of Cork Company’s new 135,000m² terminal in Ireland represents a big step forward for Cork and the Port of Cork.

Ireland direct link to US starts in June

Direct services between Ireland and the US are returning with the addition of the Port of Cork to the International Container Lines (ICL) transatlantic service operated by four vessels of around 3,000TEU.

The ICL weekly Atlantic service operates out of the Penn Terminal in Pennsylvania calling at the Port of Wilmington in North Carolina, Southampton in the UK and Belgium’s Antwerp facility, and from 6 June the 3091TEU Independent Vision will also call at the port of Cork.
