The Secretary of State for Transport has confirmed the reappointments of Jonson Cox CBE as Non-Executive Chair and Admiral Sir Philip Jones GCB DL as Non-Executive Director to the Board of the Port of London Authority (PLA).

Both will begin their second terms on 4 April 2025, extending their service for an additional three years.

World’s first methanol-fuelled boxship arrives at Port of London

Laura Maersk, the world’s first methanol-fuelled container vessel, arrived at the port of London for its first call on 27 September, marking a significant milestone in the maritime industry’s journey toward decarbonisation.

This 2,100 TEUs feeder vessel will assist Maersk in meeting its long-term goal of gradually updating its whole fleet to operate purely on green fuels.

Port of London Authority and RightShip unveil decarbonisation partnership

RightShip, an Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG)-focussed digital maritime platform, will work together with the Port of London Authority (PLA) to support the Net Zero transition on the United Kingdom’s Thames.

UK Government gives green light to Thames Freeport to commence operations

Following the UK Government’s approval of the final business case, the Thames Freeport has been granted the green light to officially establish its board and begin full operations.

The Freeport is an economic zone situated in the Thames Estuary and the port of London, the United Kingdom’s largest port.

Port of London Authority proceeds with decarbonisation

The Port of London Authority (PLA), which supervises the secure running of the UK’s largest port, has pledged to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2040, if not sooner.

Last year’s performance resulted in a 50% reduction in carbon emissions three years earlier than the initial 2025 goal.

As an interim measure, the introduction of sustainable biofuel in lieu of gasoline in its fleet of vessels was a critical first move in boosting performance.
