Empties and overstaying boxes in Manila drastically dropped

Sixty days after the Manifesto of Support was signed by shipping stakeholders, the number of empties and overstaying containers at the Port of Manila drastically dropped to a more appealing level.

Port of Manila operations improve amid decongestion

Operations within the Port of Manila (POM) have started to improve with the removal of many overstaying containers, which has alleviated problems created by congestion.

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said the yard utilization rate at Manila ports has gone down to 70 percent after reaching as high as 90-95 percent in January this year.

Manila returns trash to Canada

Canada will see more than six dozen containers of Canadian household trash returned to its Port of Vancouver soon from the Philippines, the CTV reported Thursday, April 2.

Canada made a formal offer earlier this week to have the containers returned to the Canadian port, according to the report.

The containers arrived in a port near Manila in 2013 and 2014 labelled as plastics for recycling, and have sat in limbo ever since while the two countries disagreed about how they should be disposed of.
