ICTSI announces expansion proposal for Australian container terminal

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has made its own proposal for the expansion of the Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), its wholly-owned subsidiary at the Port of Melbourne in Australia.

ICTSI said it could contribute more than US$340 million in Victoria, in addition to over US$480 million it has already invested in the Australian state since the founding of VICT in 2014, making ICTSI one of Victoria’s leading foreign infrastructure investors.

In the Port of Melbourne, container volume was down year on year in December. The total container throughput of the Australian port decreased by 5.2% in the last month of 2022, compared with the same month in 2021, reaching 261,334 TEUs.

Port of Melbourne saw total container throughput (full and empty) in November down 8.4% over the same month in 2021 with a total of 258,449 TEUs.

Additionally, year-to-date container volumes of the Australian port are increased by 5.6% compared with the same period last year.

Increased container volume at Port of Melbourne in October

Port of Melbourne noted increased container volumes in October 2022 compared to the same month last year.

The Australian port saw October’s container throughput rise by 15.6% over October 2021 with a total of 295,149 TEU, while year-to-date box volumes are up 9.3%.
