Kalmar to provide Kenya Port Authority with new equipment

Kenya Port Authority (KPA) has confirmed two orders for new reachstackers and forklift trucks to the Finnish cargo handling equipment manufacturer and part of Cargotec, Kalmar, in order to enhance its fleet at Mombasa Container Terminal.

Mombasa port hits all-time record

Kenya’s port of Mombasa has so far recorded container traffic of 1.4 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2019, which is the best performance ever, surpassing a target of 1.35 million TEUs that had been set at the beginning of the year.

Daniel Manduku, managing director of Kenya Ports Authority said while briefing journalists at the port on Monday that the 1.4 million TEUs represent a growth of 7.3 percent over last year’s 1.304 million TEUs.

Mombasa to surpass annual performance target

Nairobi based journalists joined their colleagues in Mombasa for a tour at the Port of Mombasa to witness the progress of the ongoing construction of the second phase of the Second Container Terminal.

SGR boosting efficiency at Mombasa port, Kenya says

Kenya said on Friday (9/20) that the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has enhanced efficiency at the port of Mombasa.

Edward Opiyo, head of container operations, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) told reporters that the Mombasa- Nairobi railway line currently evacuates 50 percent of all cargo that arrives at the port.
