The Port of PE Salutes Pilot Murphy After 4 Decades of Service

The Port of Port Elizabeth celebrates the dedication of Pilot Bernard Murphy, who has come ashore after 41 years of service.

Pilot Murphy joined the now Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) on 20 January 1973. As an Open Pilot License holder, Murphy has completed 3 224 vessel movements at the Port of PE and moved a total gross tonnage of 120 121 410 tons. He also piloted 205 vessels when the Port of Ngqura opened in 2009.

Commemorating a Decade of Port Operations in The Port of Ngqura

The Port of Ngqura celebrates the arrival of its first commercial vessel ten years ago on 4 October 2009.

“We are proud to commemorate the arrival of the first commercial vessel in the Port of Ngqura. The MSC Catania berthed at our shores at 10h50 on Sunday, 4 October 2009, off-loading 275 containers at an average speed of 19 containers per ship working hour. The vessel stayed for 21 hours before leaving the port at 07h40 on 5 October 2009,” said Tandi Lebakeng, Port Manger of the Port of Ngqura.

Port of Ngqura’s Tug SHASA Returns Home

Tug SHASA, the first tugboat delivered to Transnet National Ports Authority’s (TNPA) Port of Ngqura, has returned home after her fifth bi-annual service in the Princess Elizabeth Graving Dock in the Port of East London.

Delivered in 2009 from the shipyard in Durban, the 10-year old tug was the first of two 70-ton bollard pull Voith tugs to arrive in the Port of Ngqura, followed by the second tug named ORCA in 2010 and the third named LIZIBUKO, also in 2010.

Unique Port Sand Bypass System Mimics Nature Successfully

Opening Up New Opportunities For Boat Building In The Eastern Cape

Transnet National Ports Authority’s (TNPA) Port of Ngqura is proud to have hosted the testing and launch of the first ever locally manufactured aluminium vessels by PE-based boat builder, Legacy Marine.
