Port of Oakland sees its busiest Peak Season

October imports set record; total cargo volume up 3.9 percent for year

The Port of Oakland had its busiest peak season ever for imports during the past three months. The Port said on Nov. 16 that it handled the equivalent of 250,686 loaded 20-foot import containers from August through October, the traditional highwater mark for container shipping. That broke the old peak season import record of 233,825 containers set in the summer and fall of 2017.

Oakland cancels coal terminal lease agreement

The City of Oakland has cancelled a lease agreement for a coal terminal which had raised controversy. The city said the it cancelled the project because of a lack of progress on the ground. The terminal was in courts from 2016, when Oakland voted to ban ship coal using city land.
