Europe, China increase trade through Belt and Road Initiative

When China Ocean Shipping Company (Cosco) took over the operation of the port of Piraeus, running the shipyard has been the first project since 2016. Cosco chose Piraeus to be China’s gateway to Europe, under the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as other ports, increasing trade between the continents.

Trieste aims to supersede Piraeus

A seaport city of just over 200,000 residents in northeast Italy could play a significant geopolitical role in promoting Eurasian integration. Greek and Chinese want to upgrade Piraeus port

For several decades the heart of Greece’s ship repair industry was beating at Perama, a western suburb of Piraeus port, until the Greek debt crisis broke out in 2009. Thousands of workers lost their jobs and machines became rusty.
