Port of Southampton receives new hybrid equipment, as part of DP World’s massive investment

DP World UK has confirmed that 11 Kalmar’s straddle carriers have arrived at the Port of Southampton and will be put into operation immediately.

According to the global port and terminal operator, the new hybrid carriers use 20% less fuel than their diesel-electric counterparts.

DP World said that the new equipment is part of its announced £40 million (US$55 million) investment in the Port of Southampton, aiming to upgrade its infrastructure, port equipment and operations.

Shipping alliances drop almost 400 port calls in North Europe in five months

Nearly a quarter of the scheduled port calls of Asia-North Europe alliance loops were omitted in the past five months, according to an Alphaliner survey.

DP World launches new empty container facility at Southampton

The UAE-based port operator, DP World has opened a new empty container park of 46,539 m² at Southampton to extend storage capacity amid the peak pre-Christmas season.

The new facility will be able to hold additional empty containers to strengthen resilience for customers and keep supply chains moving when dwell times at terminals across the United Kingdom (UK) have increased.
