Port of Southampton welcomes growing numbers of “green” vessels

The new high efficiency RoRo vessel from Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s HERO class, has made its maiden call at the Port of Southampton.

The HERO class (which stands for High Efficiency RoRo) has set a new benchmark in energy efficient world-wide automotive shipping. The HERO class has two new-build vessels in its fleet and the latest, MV Traviata, has called at the Port of Southampton for the first time.

Southampton, Miami ink sister port agreement

The Port of Southampton and PortMiami signed a sister port agreement during a visit from a delegation of officials from the Florida-based port and Miami-Dade County.

During the visit, a city twinning agreement was also signed at the Mayor’s Parlour at the Civic centre.

Rail investment boosts Port of Southampton air quality project

A project to lengthen the tracks at the Port of Southampton’s Solent Rail Terminal has completed and aims to reduce lorry movements in the city by 180,000 each year.

As part of a commitment to improving air quality in the port and for the city, Solent Stevedores and ABP Southampton have partnered on this scheme to extend the track by 70 metres so that two 645-metre container trains can be serviced simultaneously. Previously only one shorter train could be accommodated at the terminal at a time.
