Tokyo to extend gate opening hours

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG)’s Bureau of Port and Harbor will extend opening hours on April 24-26 and May 7-9 at all container terminals of the Port of Tokyo. It will be carried out as part of the efforts the TMG is making to manage transport demand during the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.

Port of Tokyo marks record in 2018

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Bureau of Port and Harbor has announced the Port of Tokyo handled 49,828,000 tons of international shipments in 2018, down 0.6% year on year. Exports waned 1.6% to 13,289,000 tons, while imports fell 0.2% to 36,539,000 tons. 

Containerized shipments, meanwhile, swelled 1.6% to 4,570,795 TEUs, setting a new yearly record. Inbound containers increased 1.1% to 2,453,332 TEUs, and outbound Boxes hiked 2.1% to 2,117,463 TEUs.
