CMA CGM worker among missing in Beirut

Two tons of ammonium nitrate was used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that brought down a federal building and killed 168 people. More than 2,700 tons of the chemical used in fertilizer and bombs is believed to have detonated Tuesday and destroyed the Port of Beirut, leveled surrounding neighborhoods, injured at least 4,000 people and killed more than 110. 

Officials in Lebanon are saying the ammonium nitrate had been stored in a warehouse since it was confiscated in 2014.

COSCO ship unloads 1,200 boxes in Libya’s port

A vessel, COSCO Shipping Panama, arrived from China at the Port of Tripoli on Tuesday, April 9, to unload 1,200 containers, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The ship sent by COSCO, short for China Ocean Shipping Company, a Chinese shipping and logistics services supplier company, unloaded some of the products at Tripoli’s port to be distributed in the local market and exported to other countries in the East Mediterranean sea, according to NNA.

New shipping line between China, Lebanon

Lebanon’s port of Tripoli and Chinese maritime transport company Cosco agreed on Wednesday (Nov.21) to open a maritime line between China and the port for regular export of Chinese products, local media reported.

The line is set to open on Dec. 24, according to the National News Agency.

Tripoli port’s director Ahmed Tamer said that Cosco’s step came after maritime shipping company CMA CGM opened its shipping line between China and the port on Oct. 9.

New line opens between China & Lebanon

A huge container ship named CMA CGM Congo arrived at Lebanese port of Tripoli on Tuesday to open a new shipping line between China and the port.

“The vessel is the first to hold 10,000 containers. It will unload 1000 containers in Tripoli port for the local market, and the rest will go to other ports in the region,” said Ahmad Tamer, manager of Tripoli port.
