Worries about Roberts Bank port’s noise

The port at Roberts Bank is going to get much louder if allowed to expand.

That’s according to a recent report to Delta council outlining a number of issues as the Port of Vancouver’s application for a second container terminal is being considered by a federal review panel.

Floating cranes to move crane that collapsed on container ship at Port of Vancouver

After an STS crane fell onto a container ship in Port of Vancouver, on January 28, two floating cranes were deployed to move it. Currently, ship operations are paused at the Global Container Terminals Vanterm facility, but rail and truck-gate operations are continuing.

Crane falls onto Evergreen vessel at the Port of Vancouver

The main container terminal at the Port of Vancouver remains closed after a crane came down on a vessel Monday (Jan. 28) morning.

A spokesperson for GCT Global Container Terminals Inc. confirmed to Global News that during berthing Monday morning, at around 4 a.m., a vessel came into contact with a GCT Vanterm ship-to-shore crane.

The Evergreen vessel, Ever Summit, is still being held alongside with tugs as the crane boom is now on top of a container stack toward the rear of the ship.

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has completed a shore power project to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and air pollution by enabling ships to shut down their diesel engines and connect to an electrical grid supplied by renewable energy sources.
