The Port of Virginia has announced the delivery of the first of four new ship-to-ship cranes to be installed at the East Coast container gateway.

The port said the new 170-foot cranes will double the number of ultra large container vessel (ULCV) berths at Virginia International Gateway, for ships carrying more than 14,500 twenty-foot equivalent units.

Port of Virginia secures US$380 million federal grant for equipment upgrade

The Port of Virginia has received US$380 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) programme to proceed with its efforts to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

The port will use the federal grant to buy electric equipment and the infrastructure needed to support its decarbonization projects, while retiring legacy equipment powered by engines that burn gasoline or diesel fuel.

Top US container ports awarded $1.6B to electrify

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration has released $3 billion in funding aimed at cutting pollution at U.S. ports, with roughly half of that going to electrify some of the country’s largest container operations.

Of the 55 grant applicants across 27 states that were awarded money from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Ports Program, the top five winners – the ports of Los Angeles, New York/New Jersey, Virginia, Baltimore and Oakland, California – received $1.6 billion.

CSX appeal fails in container terminal antitrust suit against Norfolk Southern

Virginia prevails over Georgia and North Carolina for FreezPak Logistics new cold storage facility
