Rail link Zeebrugge-Dourges as from February

As from 12 February 2019 the port of Zeebrugge will be connected by rail with the multimodal platform Delta 3 in Dourges, Northern France.

As from Dourges there will be rail connections to destinations in southern Europe, such as Bordeaux, Avignon, Lyon, Bayonne, Toulouse, Perpignan, Miramas/Marseille/Fos. As from the Paris hub there will be connections to Novara and Turin.

Port of Zeebrugge sees higher container volume

In total, the port of Zeebrugge handled over 40 million tonnes of goods in 2018. In comparison to the result of 2017 this means a rise of 8 percent. This increase is mostly due to the volumes in roll-on/roll-off traffics and liquid natural gas, two very important sectors for the port of Zeebrugge. The container volumes are status quo, but the prospects in that sector for 2019 are very positive.

Chemical leak reported on Ro-Ro in Zeebrugge

According to information, there was a chemical leak on board the Finnish Ro-Ro Mistral at Zeebrugge, Belgium, on October 29. Emergency services responded to the leak, while cargo operations were stopped.

Namely, a chemical leak on board the Finnish Ro-Ro Mistral at Zeebrugge was reported at emergency services, which made all cargo operations to stop.

Until now, it is not known what kind of chemicals leaked, nor the volume.

Port of Zeebrugge sees bigger numbers

Port of Zeebrugge has reported a growth of 7.7% after the first three quarters of 2018 compared to the same period last year. There was a total cargo volume of 29,806,359 tonnes handled in Zeebrugge. The increase is situated in the roro sector (+8.2%) and liquid bulk (+48.7%).

The roll-on/roll-off traffic grew 8.2% to a total ofnearly 12million tonnes. Growth is registered for the UK (+2.3%), Ireland (+7.8%) and Scandinavia (+1.7%)
