Austal USA completes purchase of World Marine shipyard

Austal USA, Mobile, Ala., recently completed the purchase of waterfront land, buildings, and an existing drydock along the Mobile River previously owned by World Marine of Alabama, an indirect subsidiary of Modern American Recycling and Repair Services of Alabama (M.A.R.R.S.). The purchase enhances the company’s new construction and service business lines.

Avondale Shipyard to morph into Avondale Marine

Nearly 1,800 guests attended the christening in July 2012 of the ninth amphibious transport dock, Somerset (LPD 25), at Avondale shipyard. LPD 25 is named in honor of the passengers and crew members of United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed on Sept. 11, 2001, near Shanksville in Somerset County, Pa. Avondale Marine LLC, a newly-formed joint venture between Virginia-based T. Parker Host and Illinois-based Hilco Redevelopment Partners, finalized the purchase of the 254-acre property formerly known as Avondale Shipyard from Huntington Ingalls Industries on Oct. 3. Financial terms of Wednesday’s sale were not disclosed.
