New shipyard planned for Qatar’s Marsa port

Qatar’s Marsa free zone maritime development project will soon become home to a newly-developed Milaha Yachts and Ships Yard, following an agreement between Qatar Navigation (Milaha) and Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ).

According to Milaha, “The agreement and new facility will reaffirm Milaha and QFZ’s commitment to support Qatar’s growing position as a global maritime services hub, aiming to create new job opportunities, with a focus on prioritising the attraction of Qatari talent.”

Strong financial results for Qatari shipowners

Qatar’s two leading shipowners, Qatar Navigation (Milaha) and Nakilat, have both announced strong financial performances for the first nine months of 2024. Milaha achieved operating profits of QAR 445 million for the nine months ended September 30th, compared to QAR 404 million for first three quarters of 2023, while the net profit of QAR 917 million was up from QAR 870 million for the same period in 2023.

Milaha secures long term jack-up barge charter

Qatar Navigation (Milaha) has signed a ten year charter contract with North Oil Company (NOC), through its subsidiary, Halul Offshore Services Company, for the latter to operate Milaha Al Shaheen, the first jack-up barge in Qatar.Milaha Al Shaheen is a self-elevating, self-propelled jack-up barge featuring four legs with a leg length of 104 m and is equipped with a 300 ton crane and accommodation for up to 304 persons on board.
