ICCT doubts on CO2 cuts from limiting engine power

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) in its latest report focused on the CO2 reduce emissions issue, by limiting engine power. The study shows that shipping Green House Gas (GHG) emissions have been reduced by 30% during a ten-year period from 2008 to 2018.

With the IMO working towards to achieve shipping’s decarbonization, technical practices to limit engine power proved to have limited impact on reducing CO2 emissions, ICCT reported.

According to the study, engine power...

Port of Kiel to accommodate Germany’s largest shore power system

The Port of Kiel commissioned Siemens to build Germany’s largest shore power system to date. With a power of 16 megavolt amperes (MVA), the Siharbor solution will supply two ships at the same time with certified eco-power, for the first time.

This will reduce annual CO2 emissions by more than 8,000 tons. The system is expected to go into test operation within the 2020 cruise ship season. 32 different cruise ships stopped in 174 times at the port facilities in 2018.

By building this new shore...

AMSA reminds of the sulphur carriage ban, beginning March

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) reminds members and interested parties that from March 1st, 2020, all vessels are prohibited from carrying fuel oil with a sulphur content greater than 0.50% m/m.

In the first weeks of 2020, there have been very few reports of enforcement action taken against vessels for non-compliance with the sulphur cap, leading to IMO’s Secretary General to stating that the transition to the implementation of the regulation has been smooth.

Now, the industry has...
