On 31st December, Tuesday, the MSC Cruise Ship, Orchestra, was on its way to Mauritius for New Year’s Eve, when during early hours of the day, a passenger was reported to have gone overboard.

According to MSC, after an hour of searching, the crew finally found the victim, sustaining few injuries from the incident, was immediately taken in for medical care.

Petty Officer Michael Kelly, a rescue swimmer with the United States Coast Guard, will receive the 2019 IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea, for his courage, perseverance and skill in rescuing four survivors from a life raft, in extremely high winds and heavy seas.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has coordinated the successful rescue of 24 seafarers from a Japanese fishing vessel that caught alight off the coast of Perth.
