Birdon America awarded $190 million contract to retrofit USCG lifeboats

Birdon America Inc, Denver, has been awarded a $190 million contract to perform a Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) for the U.S. Coast Guard’s (USCG) fleet of 47′ Motor Lifeboats (MLB). The contract is a firm-fixed price (FFP), indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) for the design, development, testing, and upgrade/build of USCG MLBs over a period of five years with an option for an additional five years.

IMO 2020 Scrubbers Uptake – 4% of Vessels, 10% by Tonnage

  • 4% of the world fleet plus order book is slated to have scrubbers.
  • A majority of this 4% is still waiting to get the exhaust gas cleaning units installed.
  • With 509 vessels currently fitted with scrubbers and 1,189 vessels pending retrofit.
  • In GT terms, vessels with scrubbers are equivalent to 10% of the global fleet over 2,000 GT and 32% of the orderbook.

Some 4% of the world fleet plus order book is slated to have scrubbers, according to the latest data from Clarksons, reports Ship and Bunker.

Wärtsilä Corporation,  22 November 2018 at 11 am EET – The technology group Wärtsilä will deliver its first ever Wärtsilä 31 engine retrofit to Gardar, a fishing vessel owned by Norwegian Gardar AS, built originally in 1998. After the retrofit is completed, Gardar’s fuel consumption will be reduced by 200,000 litres and NOx emissions by over 88 tonnes annually.
