A powerful nor’easter produced heavy rain and damaging winds Tuesday in parts of the Northeast. Truckers will have to deal with more of the same Wednesday before the storm heads out to sea.

DXFD is handling a very high volume of emergency calls. 37% of the town has no power. Use extreme caution if you need to be on the roads for any reason. Many roads are impassable due to trees down. #weather #noreaster pic.twitter.com/E5YySi4E3H

The threat for more slow-moving thunderstorms and repeated downpours to end the week is looming over parts of the Deep South.

Lake Charles, Louisiana, had a daily record 12.49 inches of rain Monday, which became the third-wettest day in the city’s history. Major flooding prompted water rescues, and Gov. John Bel Edwards issued a state of emergency. Lafayette and...

A late-season storm could dump 12 inches of snow or more in parts of Montana and Idaho beginning later Wednesday. Drivers should be prepared to chain up.

Regarding tractor-trailers, the Montana and Idaho Departments of Transportation (DOTs) don’t require drivers to use chains every time it snows.

Texas snowstorm likely this weekend

Driver pulled into a truck stop on a snow day.

A fast-moving storm system will move across Texas late this weekend, producing a band of snow from portions of eastern New Mexico into the Lone Star State. With cold air already in place, much of the precipitation will be snow. But in some places precipitation will change from rain to sleet and then snow, or remain a mixture. The most likely impact zone will be from the Panhandle to Dallas-Fort Worth and the Texas-Arkansas border.

Based on the most recent computer models Friday morning, the bulk...

Delta prompts hurricane warning for US Gulf Coast (with forecast video)

Satellite animation of Hurricane Delta in the Gulf of Mexico.

Hurricane Delta is moving fairly quickly across the Gulf of Mexico, heading toward a Gulf Coast landfall Friday.

Delta is a high-end Category 2 storm with winds of 100 mph as of early Thursday. But warm Gulf waters plus lack of wind shear will help Delta strengthen to at least a Category 3 storm today.

Delta probably will then lose a bit of steam again just prior to landfall Friday, but it will still be a dangerous hurricane when it hits the coast — possibly as a major Category 2 storm.

It looks...
