Kiwibot launches robotic delivery service at Loyola Marymount

Robotic sidewalk delivery firm Kiwibot announced on Monday the launch of the first high-driving automation campus at Loyola Marymount University (LMU).

The site, which will feature 25 Kiwibot robots making deliveries within the confines of the campus, is made possible by the use of Nvidia technology that puts computing power at the edge. The Nvidia technology enables Kiwibot to focus on algorithms and architecture to ensure its robots navigate the campus safely.

Kiwibots are coming to a city near you

Robotic delivery service Kiwibot announced an expansion of its service to four new locations as part of a partnership with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Kiwibot will deploy its delivery bots in San Jose, California; Miami-Dade County in Florida; Pittsburgh; and Detroit.

Uber spinning off robotic delivery division

After first indicating in January it planned to spin off Postmates X, the robotics division of on-demand food delivery firm Postmates, Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) has made it official, according to published reports.

Bloomberg first reported that Uber would co-lead a $50 million investment in the new company, Serve Robotics, which will be based in San Francisco. Venture firm Neo will also be involved, the publication reported.

Nuro raises $500M Series C

Self-driving vehicle company Nuro has raised a $500 million Series C round of funding, as autonomous delivery continues to pick up new markets.

The raise, announced on Monday, was led by funds and accounts advised by T. Rowe Price Associates, with participation from new investors including Fidelity Management & Research Co. LLC and Baillie Gifford.

The round also includes existing investors such as SoftBank Vision Fund 1 and Greylock.
