Russian container market achieves 9% growth in 2021

The Russian market has recorded firm growth during the third quarter and the first nine months of the year, according to Global Ports Group, the largest port operator in the country.

The overall Russian container market during the third quarter of the year completed 1.32 million TEU, representing a growth of 9%.

In particular, exports grew by 14% year-on-year while imports registered an increase of more than 9% over the same period of 2020.

Containerized shipments moved to and from ports in Russia increased 9.8% to a total of 5.075 million TEUs in 2018, according to statistics compiled by an association of commercial seaports in the nation. Throughput swelled 9.8% from the previous year, but was smaller than the 15.5% marked in 2017. In breakdown, imports accounted for 2.129 million TEUs, up 9.38%, and exports, 2.103 million TEUs, up 9.25%. Empty containers totaled 761,690 TEUs, up 1.5%.
